I LOVE Marshall's!!! I hope I win!

My best tip: I started a neighborhood clothes swap. We have a lot of kids all about the same age in my neighborhood so when one child grows out of his/her clothes they get passed on to someone else in the neighborhood.

I try to buy a mix of basic and a few special wow itens - like a fancy top over basic solid leggings from a superstore. I also buy a season ahead so i can get sale prices on good quality clothes.

My daughter is not in school yet, but I was able to get some good ideas here for when she starts. thanks

Clearance, clearance, clearance. When you find an excellent deal (say, $2.98 Levis or $1.24 tees at Target), stock up in bigger sizes. Your kid may not wear it tomorrow, but it'll save you money in the long run.

21 Michele August 18, 2009 at 10:40 pm

I love Marshalls. I was just there tonight and could have really used the $25 gift card : ) Thanks for the contest. I try to shop sales throughout the year. Marshalls really does have the best prices on kids' clothes and Children's Place has amazing sales.

22 Sarah August 18, 2009 at 10:40 pm

I throw a jean jacket over a cute summer dress to wear in the fall!

I use some of my daughters dresses for shirts as she grows too tall for them, but they still fit around her stomach. That way, I she gets to wear them longer.

28 Heather August 18, 2009 at 11:01 pm

I buy on clearance for her clothing. I have clothes for this winter that I bought at the start of the year that were way on clearance!!

29 Jennifer August 18, 2009 at 11:01 pm

We layer clothes, and I pick a pallet for each girl, so that they can mix and match themselves, but I know they will always be close to matching.

With a little organization and patience, I shop TJMaxx clearance racks to dress designer for a fraction of the cost:
1. The best prices for clothing are usually found end of season, or off season. Shop for sweaters 75% off in the summer, and snag name-brand collared polo shirts and tees in the winter. So shop now and store for later. Just remember to do the growth and season "math" if you've got little ones that'll outgrow a size by a season.
2. Dig! Have the patience to go through every rack, even the circular rounders that I tend to miss when making my way down the clearance line. Don't forget other size sections, too. I know I'm guilty of nestling a size 6 dress for later in the woman's size 12 section and vice versa.

I've got Deal Seeking Mom on my blogroll at FatHeadDog.com:

Although my kids love TJMAXX, we've recently started shopping at the new Platos Closet (resale shop for teens). You can not only buy name brand designer clothes, purses, shoes and belts. You can SELL your items too!

38 Rhonda Crocker August 18, 2009 at 11:49 pm

I love to shop the clearance racks ad use the Old Navy Weekly copons for some really inexpensive school clothes.

41 Nat August 19, 2009 at 12:10 am

Long-sleeve t-shirts are cute under t-shirts for boys and girls. Also spaghetti-strap tanks are cute over snug t-shirts and/or long-sleeve t-shirts. This creates creative styles and gets the most out of clothes before children outgrow them!

I always receive gift cards for my birthday to Kohls from my in-laws. This year I didn't really need anything for myself, so I ordered a bunch of stuff for my son in July. I used GC's, free shipping codes and a 30% off code. I got 6 T-shirts and 3 pair of shorts. Then I went in to Kohls to get some nearly free underwear and socks.
