I love Aldi. I buy there break apart and bake cookies and they are awesome. I have had several people ask me how I made homemade cookies so fast. I think they are something like 1.89 a pack. That is a great price compared to the name brands. I love their stuff. They have great frozen food at great prices!!!

I love Aldi! I just did a post about my own little price test. I love finding the name brand items for dollars less than at our local grocery store. I'd say that you shouldn't PLAN on buying a certain produce item. Just go there and check 'em out before you get disappointed. I haven't had a lot of luck. Also, their milk prices haven't changed since I started shopping there a year ago. They were selling skim milk for $2.39 even when everyone else was over $3.00. And last, it's hit or miss, but they have great deals on fresh flowers. I've bought wildflower bundles for $1.99. That's pretty unreal.

I shop there mainly for their produce. I think it is fresh and good. The pears and apples are usually just a bit smaller than what you find at other grocery stores, but the quality is good. I buy their broccoli, grape tomatoes, romaine hearts, carrots, celery, etc. I don't like their dairy products though. I find the cheese and yogurt a bit grainy textured. I agree that their bread is good. And their red meat is good too.

I buy frozen ground turkey at Aldi for 1.19 a pound, and it's great. It is 85/15 fat ratio, but I brown it and drain/rinse with hot water, so that doesn't bother me much. It is great for chilis, soups, anything that would take ground beef. We also get great deals on apples (you have to look to make sure you get a good bag) - I got a 3 lb. bag of honeycrisp apples on sale for 2.99 a few weeks ago! And 3 pounds of sweet potatoes for .48 (not a pound, 48 cents total). Yay for Aldi! Courtney´s last blog post..Menu Monday

Hey Tara, I did a post on Aldi a while back that explains shopping there (it's under the Aldi label). And, as for stuff I purchase - the basic everyday essentials, since they are usually cheaper than any grocery store with sales. I enjoy the savings that I get at Aldi. The flavored creamer is really a bargain. Their own brand of coffee, however, leaves much to be desired. It tasted like cardboard. :-(

I've never had a bad experience with produce at Aldi, though I am pretty picky wherever I buy it - so maybe I just lucked out. Producd prices are consistently low, though not always as low as sales other places. We typically don't buy meats at Aldi, though we've had them at others' houses and they were fine. Two things that stand out as much less than name brands are the shortening (Crisco is worth every penny compared to no-name) and the ice cream (I think Aldi's brand is Belmont). We won't buy either thing again. The imported chocolates are all quite yummy, however! We also like the take and bake breads and rolls. The bagels are pretty okay too.

It's all generics, but I really like their foods better than some name brand stuff. We love Aldi brand turkey bacon, milk, turkey meatballs (YUM), lunch meats, bagels, frozen fruit bars (all fruit). I love to use ground sirloin and I can only find it at Aldi. Their fresh meats are great. They also have good prices on sandwich bags, freezer bags, and basic ingredients like canned tomatoes, chicken broth, tomato sauce, etc. If I could buy everything there I would. I try to stock up on "name brand" canned goods when I have coupons and there are sales, but sometimes you just need some tomato sauce! Aldi has it for .25 a can and it serves it's purpose well. I also get mandarin oranges there for .48 a can and pineapple chunks for .89 a can. Cereal at our Ali is $1.49-$1.89 a box but the quality is good if you are needing it and don't have coupons. We like their wheat sandwich bread better than many name brands and it's $1.19 a loaf. Milk is also cheapest for us at Ali, it was $2.79 for 2% over this weekend. I guess I get a lot of "basics" there. Red delicious apples were $1.99/3lb bag and I bought two, if I'd been at a different store I might have paid that same price for one bag. ;)

I usually buy cereal there unless there's a fantastic coupon deal somewhere else. Also, their brownie mix is my very favorite. It was only .99 till about 6 months ago, but it's gone up to $1.29 now. Chocolate chips are usually a good deal, too!!

We eat a LOT of refried beans in this house and everyone agrees they have the best, hands down. They are way less expensive there than anywhere else.

Granted, produce can be hit or miss, but that's true of my very expense upscale grocer these days, too.
